Schlosspark Philippsruhe
Open daily until nightfall
The magnificent Baroque palace not only houses fascinating exhibitions on Hanau's urban history and arts and crafts from the 17th to the 20th centuries, but is also surrounded by one of the region's most important parks. The foundation for this flood-free garden parterre was laid as early as 1696 with the construction of a massive retaining wall.
After a turbulent history, the park acquired its present, elegant appearance in the late 19th century thanks to the Swedish landscape architect Jens Person Lindahl: a landscape park with gentle hills, winding paths, and cleverly placed vistas. This historical vision was faithfully reconstructed for the 2002 State Garden Show. Today, the imposing linden avenues and the wooded grounds invite visitors to stroll, while the central pond with its fountain creates an idyllic atmosphere. From the historic retaining wall, the view sweeps across the Main River – an ideal place to unwind.
