Schlosspark Alzenau-Wasserlos
Schlosspark Alzenau-Wasserlos
open daily
“Exquisitely beautiful and fertile” – this is how the park at Wasserlos Castle was described as early as 1842. Just three years later, Ludovika Freifrau von des Bordes, sister of the famous poet Clemens Brentano, acquired the estate. Even today, the park still exudes the spirit of bygone eras: a stately avenue of lime trees connects the castle with the former tea house in the former rose garden, where mighty cherry trees now provide shade.
The extensive English landscape park at what is now the Aschaffenburg-Alzenau Clinic invites visitors to explore. Between babbling brooks and tranquil ponds, there are some truly exotic trees: a majestic swamp cypress from Mexico stretches its distinctive “knees” out of the park pond, while a Californian sequoia and a primeval ginkgo tell of the vastness of the world. Whether in spring amid a sea of wood anemones or under the dense canopy of old beech trees, the park is a timeless natural gem.
