Schlossgarten Hanau Altstadt
open daily
In the heart of Hanau's old town lies a green oasis with royal roots. In the second half of the 18th century, Landgravine Maria of Hesse-Kassel, an English princess, commissioned the park as an "English bosquet." She thus created the first pleasure garden of the residence, located in close proximity to the palace.
Today, the approximately 5.4-hectare park combines historical elegance with modern living. While the rose garden and the curving banks of the pond are reminiscent of 19th-century garden design, a spacious playground and a modern fitness trail invite visitors to be active. The semicircular bastion is particularly worth seeing: From here, one can enjoy a picturesque view of the pond and the "Six Swans" monument. A highlight for nature lovers is the collection of trees with over 70 species from three continents, including impressive natural monuments such as the pyramidal oak from 1830.
