What began in 1993 as a private initiative by rose enthusiast Ralf Berster has since developed into a unique botanical gem. On the site of a former quarry, a place has emerged where around 600 historic rose bushes blend seamlessly into a vibrant biotope. With unobstructed views of the Taunus mountains, the plants are allowed to flourish naturally.
The special feature of the Rose Slope is the principle of "harmonious chaos": Instead of formal flowerbeds, visitors will find a wildflower-rich meadow that provides valuable habitat for insects and birds. At its heart are the "Old Roses"—Gallicas, Albas, and Damask roses—known for their captivating fragrance and soft colors. Thanks to the repeat-flowering Portland and China roses, the slope offers a colorful spectacle from the main bloom in June well into autumn, entirely without the use of pesticides.
