Rosengarten Burg Hayn
daily opened
In the heart of the picturesque old town of Dreieichenhain stands the landmark of the town of Dreieich: Hayn Castle. Founded in the 11th century as the seat of imperial ministers, the complex underwent many changes over the centuries until it fell into ruin in the 18th century. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the history and heritage association has been passionately committed to preserving this unique architectural monument, which today serves as a lively venue for widely known events.
A particular highlight is the garden, which emphasises the picturesque appearance of the castle. Inspired by medieval models, new garden areas were created at the keep, the great hall and the castle bridge from 1984 onwards as part of a subsidised school project.
The highlight of the grounds is the magnificent rose garden surrounding the keep. Over 100 historical and modern rose varieties adorn the area today. This splendour was inspired by a rare species of wild rose discovered directly on the castle grounds. The flora is complemented by flower beds in front of the Dreieich Museum, which display plants from the ‘Capitulare de villis’. This land ordinance issued by Charlemagne gives visitors an insight into the world of medieval aromatic and medicinal herbs and the symbolic power of poppies and irises.
