Information

Plants from all over the world, ancient trees, meadows and water, wildness and knowledge, art and culture – the Palmengarten is a place like no other.

The garden covers around 19 hectares, with around 13,000 plant species growing in its open spaces and under the roofs of its partly historic display houses. Exhibitions, themed tours and music events make the Palmengarten a magnet for visitors in every season. And not just for people, by the way: anyone walking along the meadows and flower beds of the Palmengarten on a summer's day will encounter countless insects, some of which have become rare. The Flower and Butterfly House, which opened in the summer of the anniversary year 2021, is dedicated to them and their importance for the ecosystem. There, visitors can experience the life cycle of a butterfly from egg to caterpillar to pupa to moth and learn about the life and relevance of insects in the neighbouring exhibition ‘Dusted – Flowers and their Pollinators’. Visitors will also encounter the current theme of flower ecology in the information exhibition, as well as in many other areas of the Palmengarten and the Botanical Garden, which has been merged with the Palmengarten since 2012.
