Information

The Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt is one of the most renowned cultural institutions in Hessen: it is responsible for and hosts the total work of art of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony, on the Mathildenhöhe. The striking exhibition building of the Mathildenhöhe, including the Wedding Tower, the Museum Künstlerkolonie and the Municipal Art Collection Darmstadt form a place of research, presentation and mediation of art and culture around 1900 that is exceptional in every respect, with further emphasis on contemporary art and interdisciplinary cultural projects.

Today's Museum Künstlerkolonie is located in the Ernst Ludwig House, the former communal studio building of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. It presents the creative work of the artists who worked on Mathildenhöhe from 1899 to 1914.

In 2021, it was decided that the Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt would be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
