Information

The Bach Choir Wiesbaden is firmly anchored in Wiesbaden's cultural life as a large concert choir with three to four oratorio performances and one a cappella concert each year. At the same time, it performs liturgical duties as the church choir of the Lutherkirche. In these church services, the repertoire ranges from schola singing and sacred a cappella literature to cantatas with soloists and orchestra. The Bach Choir's permanent partner is the Bach Orchestra Wiesbaden. It brings together professional musicians, mainly from the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden, as well as specialists in historical performance practice for early music. The voice coach is tenor and singing teacher Rouwen Huther, and the accompanist is pianist Yumi Fujimoto.

The choir was founded in 1978 by Klaus Uwe Ludwig and has been under the direction of Lutherkirche cantor Jörg Endebrock since 2008. Today, around 80–100 singers from Wiesbaden, the Rheingau, and the surrounding area sing in the Bach Choir. The repertoire ranges from works by Johann Sebastian Bach to major oratorios from various eras to rarely performed compositions, some of which have been recorded on CD. Concert tours have taken the choir to Paris, Gdansk, the USA, and England, among other places; it has a close partnership with the Royal Tunbridge Wells Choral Society.

For decades, the Lutherkirche has been a nationally significant center for church music.  Its outstanding acoustics and two large organs offer ideal conditions for a wide range of musical projects. In addition to the Bach Choir, several ensembles have emerged from the Kantorei, including the Wiesbaden Chamber Choir, a cappella groups, and instrumental ensembles such as the Bach Orchestra, the Johann Walter Circle, recorder ensembles, and brass ensembles.

A special focus is placed on promoting young talent: around 130 children and young people currently sing in seven age- and ability-based groups. In 2003, the Bach Choir was awarded the Culture Prize of the State Capital of Wiesbaden for its work and regularly participates in the Wiesbaden Bach Weeks.

Since 1997, the Friends of the Bach Choir Association has supported church music work at the Luther Church.

Interested singers with choir experience, knowledge of music notation, and vocal training are invited to attend a rehearsal by appointment and introduce themselves in a short audition. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 7:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Bachsaal of the Lutherkirche.
