Information

Exhibitions on the history of the city and artistic and handicraft products from the 17th to the 20th centuries.

Papiertheatermuseum:

Here you can discover the fascinating world of small stages in an interactive and analogue way. Atmospherically staged in enchanting theatre lighting.

Six exhibition rooms invite you on an exciting tour. Visitors embark on a journey through time from the beginnings of printmaking to today's paper theatre.

In a separate theatre room in the exhibition, a short film provides information about the how and what of paper theatre.

After all, who has ever played with one of these at home? Is the ‘television’ of past generations just a nice craft project, a children's toy, or why is paper theatre even  „Immaterielles Kulturerbe der UNESCO“?

The Papiertheatermuseum has been an integral part of the Hanau Philippsruhe Castle Historical Museum since 28 January 1990 – exactly 36 years ago.
