Information

The museum, named after its founder Phil Schäfer II, inhabits the historic Erfeld town hall from the 16th century. The collections include prehistoric and Neolithic finds, taxidermies from the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue nature reserve, as well as old Rhine maps and literature on the home region. Another focus is the crossing of the Rhine by the Swedish troops at Erfelden under King Gustav Adolf during the Thirty Years' War. There is also an extensive collection of equipment from local agriculture, handicrafts, fishing, brickworks and exhibits from the smallholder household. The almost completely preserved community archive from the 17th century until 1977 is also accessible. The local and museum association often organizes demonstrations and special exhibitions and is dedicated to the maintenance of customs.
