Information

The local history museum is located in a listed 19th century elementary school building.

The later permanent exhibition, which was started in 1979 by the then newly founded Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Biebesheim e.V., showed a collection of farming tools and objects from the dairy industry, which referred to the livestock farming tradition, and large agricultural equipment was presented in an exhibition in a shed. The history of the village and the local area was illustrated by documents from local associations and smaller collections. In the basement, exhibits from prehistory and early history were displayed in large showcases. The most important exhibits in this section were the Late Bronze Age comb helmets (Biebesheim type) and the Biebesheim togatus (part of a Roman burial monument from 20-10 BCE)

These two highlights can also be seen in the new exhibition, as they are a unique feature of the local history museum. The local history exhibition is now housed in one room on the ground floor and a mobile Rhine exhibition in the second. On the first floor, a presentation has been created virtually following the course of a person's life from birth to death. From birth and baptism, children's school and school to confirmation, communion and bar mitzvah, on to marriage, military service and household. The model of Ulm Minster, which three unemployed young men made from plywood as a fretwork in the 1920s and put on display in Hesse, stands in the space in between. A video installation provides information about it.

Another media station contains two films about Wilhelm Hammann.

The second room focuses on the world of work from agriculture, sheep farming and mills to the first industry. It continues with leisure activities and the fire brigade. Then there is the topic of health and finally death.
