Burg- und Stadtmuseum Königstein

The “Old Town Hall” itself is already a beautiful exibit, having outlasted Königstein's seven hundred years of history. The massive substructure is the lower castle gate of the Königstein fortress. For almost two hundred years, until 1909, the upper floor has served as the town hall. The museum has been housed in these rooms since 1968. It is important to discover the historical development of the region and especially the city of Königstein. Finds, models, drawings and pictures, tools, coins and everyday objects from many centuries of history bear eloquent testimony to its eventful history. The highlight of the museum is the model of the Königstein fortress on a scale of 1: 100, which was manufactured by Karl Söhngen in 1909/10 and shows the fortress in its undamaged state from 1790.
The castle and town museum of the Verein für Heimatkunde e.V. Königstein will cease to exist on 31 March 2024.
We have therefore decided to present the museum collection of the Verein für Heimatkunde in a ‘digital museum’. You can find the first exhibits on the subpage
