“Plants, Life, Culture” – under this guiding principle, the Frankfurt Palmengarten has combined botanical diversity with social life since 1997. The historic Palm House and the community center form the heart of this traditional institution, harmoniously blending recreation and culture.
Closely linked to this history is the Frankfurt Botanical Garden, which has been part of the Palmengarten since 2012. Its origins date back to 1763, when the physician Johann Christian Senckenberg founded the “Hortus medicus.” True to the founder's vision, the garden continues to focus on plants from Central Europe and comparable climate zones: around 4,000 species grow on seven hectares.
A particular highlight is the barrier-free Senckenberg Medicinal Plant Garden, designed specifically as a sensory garden for blind and visually impaired people.
Furthermore, the garden makes an important contribution to species conservation: it is home to approximately 500 species on the "Red List" and almost half of the wild plants native to Germany.
