A monument to garden design: the Old Spa Gardens in Bad Soden developed over two centuries in five fascinating phases to become the magnificent site we see today. Begun in 1820 on the site of a former salt works, the gardens are now characterised by mature trees and wide meadows. Great garden designers such as Sebastian Rinz and Carl Friedrich Thelemann gave the area its soul in the 19th century.
Historical architecture meets the vibrant present here: the former bathhouse from 1871 is now a cultural centre with a town museum, gallery and library. Where Duchess Pauline of Nassau once resided in her small castle, there is now the citizens' office, surrounded by box trees from the famous Siesmayer company. Whether admiring the town coat of arms planted in flowers or visiting the modern conference hotel on the site of the first spa house – every step in the Old Spa Gardens is steeped in history.
