Information

North of the Nidda River lies one of Frankfurt's most exciting destinations. Where US helicopters once took off from the "Maurice Rose Army Airfield," a 4.5-hectare "urban wilderness" has now emerged. As an award-winning part of Frankfurt's Green Belt, the area combines military history with modern recreation.

Visitors can observe how nature is gradually reclaiming the old runway. Creative recycling is a defining feature: former concrete slabs now serve as a viewing platform, while the expansive airfield is ideal for skating and cycling.

Highlights on site:

• Culture & Dining: The Tower Café invites you to take a break on its outdoor terrace. In the immediate vicinity are the Bee Museum and the Firefighting Museum, which regularly offers insights into the history of technology.

• Robert Gernhardt Bridge: The pedestrian bridge over the Nidda River is guarded by the bronze "Green Belt Animal," the emblem of Frankfurt's nature conservation efforts.

• Learning Station: As part of the Green Belt educational area, the site offers nature experiences for children, including an aquarium with native Nidda fish.
